Number of Pages 5

This research paper: This is a 5 page paper describing the impact of the September 11th, 2001 had on the Islamic community of San Diego. The Islamic community in San Diego was hard hit after the terrorists’ attacks of September 11, 2001 for many reasons: firstly, two of the terrorists were found to have been living in their community before the attacks; secondly, in the mid-1990s, an Islamic extremist group, the American Islamic Group, decided to move their central headquarters to San Diego from the East Coast; and third, despite the fact that the population of Muslims in the San Diego area is over 100,000 and the history of their community goes back over 100 years, the non-Muslim community in the area had instantly began to fear and resent them. Because of this, the Muslim community in San Diego immediately began information and educational forums in an attempt to open and introduce the Islamic community to their neighboring communities. Although, the response to their open forums was slow at first, they hope that with continued effort on their behalf and on the behalf of non-Muslims that their fellow Americans will understand that Islam is a religion based on peace and not hatred.
