Plato is the first of the philosophers to offer the view that there is really nothing new, insisting that the process we call “learning” in reality is nothing more than mere recollection. In the Platonic view, belief can be characterized as a precursor to knowledge, and the basis on which the individual focuses the recollection that reveals the knowledge that already exists within him.
