ESSAY ON: Black Power

Number of Pages 5

This research paper: 5 pages in length. Black Power was a movement in the mid 1960's that sought to afford Blacks to opportunity to "define the world in their own terms" (Hiltz et al, 1998). Often misconstrued as a movement against Whites rather than for Black progress, Black Power was disseminated throughout the population by way of outspoken individuals and organizations via literature, popular culture and aggressive behavior. This precedence-setting movement was appealing to young urban youths because it empowered them with a sense of self that had not heretofore existed in the Black population; historically having to bow to White mandate, this was a time for Blacks of all ages to stand up for what they believed was right for their race.
