This research paper: (5 pp) The most humanistic of the Renaissance painters, Botticelli was at first apprenticed to a goldsmith; whether working in this sensuous metal influenced him we can not be sure, but we can easily say that Botticelli was one of the greatest artists of the Quatrocentro. The new secular spirit of the time affirmed individual value in numerous ways - portraiture came forward after centuries of neglect. Donors stepped forward confidently and aggressively as patrons of the arts, artist sponsors, and subjects. Secondly, privately commissioned works were made for aesthetic as well a religious purposes, and expressed the mythological subjects favored by the humanists, who enjoyed their history as well as their nudity and mild eroticism.
