This research paper: This is a 4 page paper discussing the use of the Harvard comma and the controversy over its use. The Harvard comma, also known as the Oxford comma or serial comma, has lived through a fair amount of controversy for a writing style. The use of the comma in a series and before the final conjunction such as in the sentence “the dress was red, white, and blue” is considered a personal preference according to several style manuals, however those sentences which do not use the comma often add an element of ambiguity, misinterpretation, and confusion. While there are some cases where use of the comma has also led to some confusion, overall it can be said that there is more clarity in writing style when the comma is used.
