This research paper: This 5 page report discusses the ways in which German filmmaking has had an impact on American movies. Using the example of “M,” the 1931 thriller by Fritz Lang and starring Peter Lorre, it covers dangerous ground even by today's standards. The idea of a moody, dark, film noir combined with a psychological thriller was truly a radical concept in pre-war Hollywood. Lang’s use of lighting and sound all added to the menacing nature of the film and were soon imitated by Hollywood. The idea of telling a dark and frightening story of modern evil was also a radical concept, soon adopted by Hollywood. Bibliography lists 8 sources.
