C 44.77%, H 1.25%, Cl 44.04%, 0 9.94% -- is a by-product of chlorinated phenols and phenoxyherbicide manufacturing, as well as paper pulp chlorine bleaching and chlorine-containing waste combustion. Better known to most people as dioxin or Agent Orange, the deadly substance was sprayed down upon soldiers of the Vietnam War as a means by which to defoliate trees and shrubs in order to thwart enemy hiding.
