Despite the fact that Machiavelli's own political context is remote, his patterns of contrast between political ideals and concrete realities apply with great influence in today's political climate, one that reflects the events that encompasses both the twentieth- and twenty-first centuries. Politicians have attempted - and for the most part succeeded - to abide by Machiavelli's myriad political ideals, not the least of which includes there being little association between ethics, morals and political office; complete separation of Church and state; as well as an omnipotent state that still considers the well-being of its constituency.
