The ease with which modern day electronics are manufactured has a great deal to do with diode lasers, which employ the use of minuscule Gallium-Arsenide or other appropriate semiconductor chips as a means by which to generate coherent light in a very small package. Manufacturing has become much faster and simpler due in part to the fact that the energy variance between valence band electrons and conduction is the primary device for laser action. The familiarity of an LED is similar to that of the diode laser, however, one significant difference resides in the actual optical expenditure it is capable of outputting.
