This research paper: 8 pages in length. The pulp and paper industry produces a significant amount of chemical waste by way of its manufacturing processes. These toxic substances, which include inorganics for pulping and bleaching to slimicides and polymers for retention and wet and dry strength, have caused a great deal of water pollution having been allowed to freely run into potable supplies. This runoff effect has caused growing concerns with regard to the overall negative impact pulp and paper mills have upon the environment. As a means by which to address these concerns, countries worldwide have begun to focus upon the implementation of regulatory and monitoring programs, with recycling representing just one element. Still, there exist water pollutants from recycling methods, however, government regulations are expected to address these issues by mandating the use of special chemicals made to control and remove the contaminants.
