This research paper: This is a 3 page paper discussing moral egoism and moral absolutism in regards to a hypothetical ethical dilemma. A hypothetical ethical issue is presented which deals with the philosophies of moral egoism and moral absolutism in regards to discussing possible actions in the case of Rose. Rose asks a friend for advice as to whether or not she should have an affair within marriage based on her unusual circumstances of caring for her husband who has been paralyzed for the past six years. Rose states she is a religious person and her religion has taught her that adultery is immoral. From a moral absolutist perspective then, if she had an affair her actions would be considered immoral. Moral egoism however, promotes the happiness of the individual which Rose believes may be the result of the sexual fulfillment she will gain by having an affair. Both aspects are examined in regards to Rose’s situation and a possible solution given by her friend. Bibliography lists 1 source.
