This research paper: A 5 page research paper that looks at Las Vegas, Nevada, for examples of classical architectural structure within the context of American society, which may seem an oxymoron, or at the very least whimsical, however, there is “probably no better place to seek popular culture than to look to that oasis in he Mojave desert” to find “elements of antiquity” that await the unsuspecting tourist (Reed 147). This examination of one such element focuses on the replication of the Arc de Triomphe that is part of the Paris Las Vegas Hotel and Casino. First of all, however, in order to put this investigation in perspective, the history of Las Vegas, as well as the history of the triumphal arch itself as an architectural structure, is described.
